Kenyan MP's recently wanted to award their "hardwork" by legally embezzling tax payers money. The MP's debated a bill, 'sort of', to get perks worth millions of Kenya Shillings. Nevertheless, President Kibaki said No to the scandalous move.
This parliament has no qualifications nor responsibility. MP's show up to work--for the people--I guess, at least when the president opens parliament and during so called emergency situations, which there are never any.
In return MP's get an excellent salary, a big car, free security, travel allowances, excellent medical insurances, all just for carrying the title MP. To become an MP is a sure way to get rich quicker, and I mean fast!
These MP's have escaped public scrutiny since time memorial. First, while the rest of the world, including Afghanistan and Iraq allow citizens to check the performance of their representatives, Kenya arrests or detain those deemed as "parliament spies". Therefore Kenyans who are allowed in public gallery of parliament rely on their memory to report to the outside world whatever expired inside parliament.
One such group is called Mars Group who have helped open public discussion and scrutiny of so called leaders.
I wonder what would happen if all the MP's got voted out.
